What is RSS
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndications. If you surfing every day to, for instance, the Katlijk Homepage to see if there is anything news on it, you can consider to install a softwareprogram, that takes al the dayly seeking en surfing off your hands. A RSS-reader collects announcements of your favorite websites at a glance. Is there something interesting for you, than just simply click on it and you will go the the concerned website.

That website must have a so-called RSS-feed. The Katlijk Homepage has such a RSS-feed for the News section (in Dutch language only). If you have a RSS-reader installed on your computer (and started of course) you will be warned if there is put a news item online.

What do you need for RSS
There are all kinds of RSS-readers for all platforms (Mac, Windows and Linux). They collect the content and give a summary of the content on the web. Moreover, this programs give you an alert when there is new content on the web.
RSS direct in the browser...?
The next step is to integrate the RSS-reader direct in the browser. Apple computer has already done that in their new operating system 'Mac OS X' (Tiger) with the browser Safari. By a handy RSS icon you know right away if you've landed on a website that offers a RSS-feed.

There is also for Windows, Apple OS X and Linux a browser with a build in RSS-reader. Mozilla Firefox is a freeware browser.
